Travel From Airport to Hotels

There are several options attendees can take to travel from the San Diego International Airport.

  1. You can use a public shuttle, which is cheaper but less efficient than a taxi because you will be sharing the van with several other passengers who may get dropped off before you. The cheapest shuttle to take would be Cloud 9 Shuttles for $19 per person.

This option is recommended if you are traveling alone and do not mind being delayed on the way to your destination.

  2. You can use a taxi. Taxis will take you directly to your destination and do not charge per person. The cost for a taxi ride to Scripps or your hotel (no matter how many people are in the car) will be roughly $40. Taxis seat four people.

This option is recommended if you are traveling in a group of two to four people or if you are in a hurry.

  3. Both of these services are available at the San Diego Airport’s Transportation Plaza. Here are directions on how to get to the Transportation Plaza:

From Terminal 1 you must cross the skybridge, and take either the escalators or the elevators to street level. From Terminal 2, cross the Terminal 2 skybridge and take either the escalators or the elevators to street level, or use the pedestrian crosswalk located outside the Terminal 2 Baggage Claim Area to access the Transportation Plaza. A Transportation Coordinator will place you with the first available shuttle or taxi, unless you specify a particular company.

  4. You can book a limousine or private shuttle ahead of time.

A private shuttle from Cloud 9, which seats 10 people and goes directly to your destination, will cost roughly $110. Cloud 9 also offers a smaller van for seven people for $83. To book a Cloud 9 shuttle to meet you at the airport after your arrival, visit www.supershuttle.com.

The limousine offered by Limo Kings Limousine service can seat up to 25 people and will take you directly to your destination for about $200 plusgratuities. You can book the limousine offered by visiting www.limokings.net.

Again, this option is recommended if you are traveling in a large group.

Travel From Hotels to Converence

Shuttle service will be provided between the Hotel La Jolla, the La Jolla Shores Hotel and the conference. A shuttle schedule will be included in the program and abstract book. Monday shuttle service to the conference site will take place at ~1:15, 2:15 and ~ 3:15 in front of the hotels. A complete shuttle schedule will be provided in the program and abstract book to all registrants.

It is also possible to walk from the conference hotels to the conference site. Please refer to the meeting map for street details. The walk along Camino del Oro and Paseo Grande is a pleasant option and some may also prefer to walk along the beach itself. Walking will take 15 - 30 minutes.

If you are driving to the conference there are parking lots at various locations at Scripps Inst. Oceanography. Parking permits are required and cost $5 per day. These permits will be available for purchase in front of Sumner Auditorium. Street parking is possible but parking spots can be very difficult to find, especially when the surfing is good.
